BERLIN, GERMANY - (Marketwire - Oct. 14, 2009) - Trenitalia (Italian Railways) awarded Bombardier Transportation a new order to supply an additional 100 of its economic and proven E464 electric locomotives. An approximate value of 258 million euros (383 million U.S. dollars U.S.), the contract is another milestone for Bombardier locomotives in Italy, which has already received orders from Trenitalia for a total of 638 locomotives E464, 480 of which are already in successful commercial service. The contract also sees a option for 50 more locomotives.
With these additional E464 locomotives, Trenitalia will be operating one of the largest vehicle of a single type fleet in Europe, becoming one of the first operators to benefit from significantly reduced operating and maintenance costs. Delivery of the locomotives is scheduled for between 2010 and 2012.
