What does it mean for a train engineer to give a shave and a haircut?

"Shave and a Haircut" is the old-fashioned term for a pattern of beeps. My father used sounding the horn of his car and when leaving for work each morning to say goodbye to us. The railroad fan recorded and released the video was excited that the engineer made the "shave and a haircut" with the employer train whistle. Since the whistle sound pattern is technically against the rules, the engineer was obviously being very easy and say hello to the fans by rail or any other that was close. I do not know how to write the pattern sound, but it is very distinctive and recognizable. Ask around some older people know, and someone is bound to be able to demonstrate for you.
